About

In March '19 the Captain Fanplastic crew facilitated the programme to three classes (Grade 5, 6 and 7), total of 80 learners, at the Bokmakerie Primary School in Athlone. The schools is situated next to the Black River, which is highly polluted by plastic. The goal was to inspire the children to change their attitude to  littering and educate them about the value of plastic waste and how important it is to keep the river clean.

After learning about the impact and the value of plastic in class we headed off to the River Club to find  some ‘treasure’ on the banks of the Black River. The learners collected a total of 38,1 kg of waste in under an hour and  and proved themselves worthy to become little pirates in Captain Fanplastic’s crew. Three ‘treasure bins were installed at the school to enable the recycling of valuable waste to continue.
